Way back in the early 1980’s I was working in the Cremorne telephone exchange. In 90% of the building the heat was oppressive. In the world of mechanical switches and clattering relays cooling was not needed. However,in one small corner of the building was this new, cooled room. It was for the new “electronics” and it was only this room that needed cooling, not the whole Building.
Over 3 decades later and the same thinking holds true: why cool an entire Data Centre, when only the active Equipment needs cooling?
Energy used in all Data Centres throughout the world is enough to power a city the size of New York twice over. That’s a lot of CO2 Emissions. DC Managers are now reducing their Energy costs by utilizing Cabinet Cooling, rather than Room Cooling.
